I've been playing the old castle map a lot recently and I'm beginning to notice something with the scores.
On average when I beat the game, I'm usually level 12 and I always use the counter spell in order to beat the shadow with no problems. But for some reason, no matter how high level I get or how good I do, my score always seems to be extremely low compared to other maps.
My most recent win on that map ended with a score of 842 after killing every enemy on the map. With maps, however, I almost always hit 1000 points even if I leave a few enemies standing. My best games sometimes triple the old castle scores.
I just wanted to know how the scores are calculated in order to understand the scores I'm getting.

I know time matters. I think level does. Not sure if piety dose but I doubt it. The map, race, and class don't matter. Not sure if money or items matter. What was defeated dose not matter. If you win or loose makes a big difference.

Score depends on a lot of factors.
* Field (e.g. win on Frozen Caverns gives you +50, win on Hive - +100)
* Level (+50/lvl)
* Remaining gold (+1/$)
* Remaining piety (+3/piety)
* Length of the game (multiplier, goes to 0.1 after 900 turns)
* Had you won? (+many)
* Achievements (each achievement gives ~20% score on top)

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks
It would also explain why dying on the first turn in nightmare as a dragon got me 210 points.
